Green Tomorrows

Green Tomorrows (GT) is a gardening and education program providing fresh food to low-income individuals or families in DC.

How it works: Green Tomorrows is similar to a “work for food” program, though we like to think of it more as a “learn for food” program. In exchange  for two or more hours per week of instructional, hands-on work on the farm, participants receive a bag of fresh farm fruits and vegetables. GT participants are encouraged to attend free Growing Gardens Workshops to further their learning experience and/or to count as their two hours for that week. In conjunction with the growing season in DC, the GT program is currently only available May through October/November. However, our Workshops will teach you how to preserve fresh farm foods to eat all-year long.

Eligibility: To be eligible for Green Tomorrows, you must make less than a DC living wage, which is $480/week without children or $980/week with children or other dependents. We also require that participants have access to a kitchen, because a lot of the farm’s produce requires cooking. No gardening or farming experience is necessary. We have farm work to suit all levels of ability, mobility, and experience. Up to two children per GT participant may accompany you to the farm when working two hours.

Sign-up: To enroll, either come by the farm to pick-up an application, download and email or mail the application to the address below, or call us and we will mail you an application.

Since its inception in January of 2007, Common Good City Farm has provided nearly 3000 lbs of food to more than 200 adults and families.
