Farm Education

Common Good City Farm's 'Farm Education' programs engage people in hands-on, instructional activities on the farm.

(1) GROUP EDUCATION and FARM TOURS: available for classes and groups of all ages to tour the farm or receive hands-on farm education. Topics taught are designed to meet your groups specific interests and often reflect those similar to our Growing Gardens workshops

Groups may be scheduled for either Tuesday or Friday mornings, between 9am - 12pm, and sometimes Saturdays.  We typically host groups for one - two hours.  Contact us at least two-weeks in advance, as our schedule fills up early.  There is a fee for this program.

For more information, please email us the following information (1) how many people in your group (2) ages of participants (3) are you interested in a tour, a volunteer experience or an educational class (4) list 3 dates and times you would like to visit (5) group affiliation, if any (6) contact person name, email and phone number.

(2) YOUTH FARM PROGRAMS are open to neighborhood kids 8 - 15 years old and offered Monday and Thursday afternoons 4-7pm and Saturdays 11am - 1pm.  Topics include:

  • Where Food Comes From
  • Botany Basics and Photosynthesis
  • Composting
  • Insects and Pollinators
  • Nutrition and Health.

Contact us or bring your son/daughter to the farm when we are open to sign-up.

Youth in these programs learn to work together and gain a sense of responsibility by planting seeds and caring for the plant until maturity.  These young people also gain valuable knowledge and experience through intergenerational exchanges with older participants in other Common Good City Farm’s programs.

* Youth must be accompanied by an adult when visiting the farm unless enrolled in a program.

* A Youth Waiver and Emergency Contact form must be filled out by a parent or guardian for each youth.

(3) GARDENING CLUB IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BLOOMINGDALE 4-H: 4-H’ers in the nation’s Capitol are at work growing produce for their community right in the middle of the city. The Bloomingalde 4-H Club has partnered with the Common Good City Farm to grow produce and provide educational opportunities in gardening for residents of our neighborhood.
