Nothing stops May flowers or the work at Common Good City Farm

Join us for #GivingTuesdayNow on May 5th.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 – in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday – as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

Why do we need your help?

  • We feed families in need, many of whom are seniors, immunocompromised, and disabled.
Common Good City Farm is located directly next to the Kelly Miller and LeDroit Apartments public housing complexes, which house a total of 284 units. Over one third of the residents who live in the LeDroit Apartments are senior citizens, many of whom also have chronic illnesses or other disabilities that make it risky for them to leave their apartments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Demand for food has increased, but the ability to pay for it has decreased.
We serve families adversely affected by COVID-19; further, we’ve lost $5K in grant funding due to the pandemic and anticipate there will be more delays in pending grant applications.

  • Demand for food has increased, but the capacity to produce it has decreased.
Due to COVID-19, we are unable to host large groups of volunteers on the Farm. We’ve started our paid farm assistant an entire month early to make sure we can produce enough food, but that means an additional cost that was not in our budget.

  • Earned income is down 75% this year.
We’re proud that in past years we’ve generated 10% of our budget through earned revenue. This year we will experience a $25-30K shortfall because we’re unable to earn that income due to COVID-19.

  • We’re helping to flatten the curve.
Common Good is reducing risk of exposure to COVID-19 by seniors and other vulnerable groups by offering safe and contactless access to fresh food.

We Need You! Here's How You Can Help

#GivingTuesdayNow is about giving of all types – you may choose to give a financial contribution to Common Good, lead a fundraising drive, or share gratitude to Common Good’s staff and volunteers. If you can show generosity and share kindness, you have something to give! You can join in this global movement for unity and giving back in a variety of ways:

  • Donate! We need funding immediately to meet needs and offset the increased demand.

  • Follow us and let others know to do the same! @commongoodcityfarm on Facebook and Instagram, and @cmmngoodctyfarm on Twitter.

  • Stream an IG Live video or FB Live video. Talk about what Common Good means to you and your community and make a specific ask for people to donate a minimum of $20.

  • Post an #Unselfie--a post on social media that shares a message about why you support Common Good City Farm.
