Meet Terri

As a seventeen year old, entering her senior year of high school in 2015, Terri joined our Summer Youth Program , unsure of what to expect and wary of working in such a new environment. She was unsure and struggled to speak up in unfamiliar settings. But she kept an open mind and embraced the opportunity to enhance her public speaking skills, learn about sustainable agriculture and healthy eating, and utilize the job training resources. Now you can find Terri – now a nineteen year old college student – every Wednesday chatting animatedly and confidently with our Farm Stand customers as one of two Farm Stand Assistants who have graduated from the Summer Youth Program. She’s taken on a leadership role among the teens in our Summer program and helps man the weekly Market at LeDroit Park. Terri understands this role comes with more responsibility and ownership. “People come to you expecting the answers,” she explains. She hopes to carry these skill into her own life and career goals. As for Terri’s next steps, she plans to attend medical school and become an anesthesiologist. She was inspired to incorporate healing into her life by our vibrant and colorful medicinal herb garden. We couldn’t be more excited for Terri’s bright future ahead of her!
