Common Good Launches New Orchard Care Course
We’re branching out…
🌳 A Year in the Orchard: Grow, Learn, and Connect
We’re thrilled to announce Biological Orchard Care in Community — a 12-month course that invites you to slow down, get your hands in the soil, and deepen your connection to trees and the land.
Over the course of a year, participants will explore the full life cycle of an orchard through hands-on pruning, soil care, grafting, companion planting, holistic sprays, and more. Together, we’ll practice biological approaches to tree care — focusing on observation, balance, and relationship rather than conventional methods.
Each session will be guided by the rhythm of the season and the interests of those present, creating a unique, conversational learning experience. You’ll come away with both practical skills and a renewed sense of connection to the living world (and yes, maybe a few bites of fruit along the way 🍎).
This program is grant-funded, with a focus on supporting our neighbors in zip codes 20001, 20059, and 20060, as well as Kelly Miller and LeDroit Park residents and Howard University students. We especially welcome applicants from marginalized communities, beginning farmers, and socially disadvantaged growers.
